Honoring our Veterans on Veteran’s Day

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the HSA PTO purchased replacement United States and Texas flags for the school. We thank all of our veterans who have served and are yet serving our great country.

Donations Needed for Thanksgiving Appreciation Luncheon (Friday, November 20)

Thanksgiving

Please join us in treating our wonderful teachers and staff to Thanksgiving appreciation luncheon on Friday, November 20.

We are looking for donations for the event including salads, vegetables, dressing or stuffing, desserts and soft drinks. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a monetary donation, please put it in an envelope marked PTO Teacher Appreciation and drop it by the front office

Donations may be dropped off to the front office before 10 AM on the day of the event. Non perishable donations such as soft drinks can be dropped off earlier.

We do have some teachers and faculty that have halal meal or vegetarian requirements.  Please mark on your dish if it is halal, vegetarian or other. If possible, please list the ingredients of the dish.

HSA PTO Scholarships

Did you know that last May the HSA PTO awarded scholarships in the total amount of $1,200 to members of the 2015 senior class? The six scholarship winners were selected by random from the senior class.  One bonus for PTO members is that their senior student(s) will have a bonus entry in the random drawing for the scholarship.  We are delighted to be making a direct difference in the lives of our students and we invite you to join the HSA PTO.

Successful First PTO Meeting

20150922_091928The PTO had a very informative meeting this morning with our new principal, Mr. Oner and two of our assistant principals, Ms. Millspaugh and Mr. Reyes. We were glad to see several new parent faces at the meeting!

 

Mr. Oner introduced himself and discussed his background.  We are glad to have his support along with the support of Mr. Reyes and Ms. Millspaugh.

 

The PTO’s accomplishments from last year were discussed and celebrated.  Last year, the PTO was able to award 6 seniors with scholarships for the first time ever.  We also provided 3 new microwaves for the cafeteria at the request of the students and purchased the two new benches outside the cafeteria .The PTO also generously assisted a student club by providing funds for travel to an international competition.  Other contributions were providing refreshments for the homecoming dance and all of the teacher appreciation events.

 

Other discussions included filling vacant PTO board positions, what the PTO can do for the school, how we can improve communication with parents, teachers and staff, fundraising ideas and increasing involvement in the PTO.

Welcome to all of our new and returning members!

Welcome to the Harmony School of Advancement PTO!  We are so excited that so many families signed up to be a part of the PTO this year.

There are lots of opportunities to get involved with the school and the PTO.  For example, we have a few empty PTO board positions that we would like to fill.  These positions are Assistant Treasurer, Volunteer Liaison, Parliamentarian and Hospitality Coordinator.    Descriptions of these positions are included at the bottom of this message.  If you are interested in filling one of these positions, please email the board at hsaptoshare@gmail.com

Three of our board members will be leaving at the end of this school year as their children will be graduating in 2016, so it is important that we fill these four positions so that the PTO will continue to be a strong part of the school.

We are interested in hearing from you all on PTO meeting days and time. We’ve heard suggestions that we move the meetings to 8:00 AM to make it more convenient.  Please vote for your preferred day and time via the Google Survey at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1YToi1cW90PA49pP4B5FbBBFcWB-VWvwZvOcMyzkbd-M/viewform?c=0&w=1.

We will compile the day and time preferences and then schedule a PTO general meeting for after the Labor Day holiday.

Board Position Descriptions

Assistant Treasurer– Perform financial duties in absence of the Treasurer. Be the second signer on all disbursements. Research and lead the effort to gain and maintain 501(3)c status for the PTO. (Effort: Hours required attaining 501(3)c status, then 4-6 hours per month)

Parliamentarian– Act as a consultant to assure that meetings and processes are conducted in accordance with bylaws; advise on parliamentary procedures using Robert’s Rules of Order; bring current copy of By-Laws and procedures to all meetings. Lead the nominating committee and implement the election of board members. Parliamentarian is responsible for publicity and keeping the official history of the PTO. (Effort: Several hours at election time, then 4-6 hours per month).

Campus Support Liaison – Act as a liaison between the PTO and the faculty and staff at the school. Identify opportunities for the PTO to assist the faculty and staff and bring these opportunities to the board for discussion and action. (Effort: 2 hours per week at school).

Hospitality Coordinator – Schedule all teacher and staff appreciation events with faculty and staff at the school. Coordinate food and beverage donations with PTO members. Estimate budget for each event. (Effort: 4-6 hours per semester).
